Is My Penis Normal or not ?
That is a question !

BBC3 Film Explores Penis Size

One Man's Two-Year Journey to Discover if Size Matters.

Filmmaker Lawrence Barraclough's personal journey, in which he explores the issue that has plagued his life: the size of his penis.

Ever since childhood, Barraclough has been convinced that his penis is too small. He reveals how this has tainted his sense of masculinity over the years and, ultimately, the effect it has had on his relationship with his one and only girlfriend, Nicola.

In a society where phallic symbols abound and images of sex are everywhere, Barraclough explores whether size is really in the head or below the waist.
Finally Lawrence seeks medical and quasi-medical advice which, in the end, he rejects in favour of a self-help group in New York and having a plaster cast made of his member. This is the point of liberation and we see this in the excellent film work. The doco ends with Lawrence's girlfriend adding her views and from this we know all is well.

This series examines the consequences of political and technocratic rationalism. Curtis' later 'The Century of the Self' has a similar theme. The title sequence makes extensive use of clips from the short film Design for Dreaming, as well as other similar archive footage.

This programme looks at how buccaneer capitalists of hot money were allowed to shape the climate of the Thatcher years, focusing on the rise of Colonel David Stirling, Jim Slater, James Goldsmith, and Tiny Rowland, all members of The Clermont club in the 1960s. It received the BAFTA Award for Best Factual Series or Strand in 2000.

The Century of the Self

To many in both politics and business, the triumph of the self is the ultimate expression of democracy, where power has finally moved to the people. Certainly the people may feel they are in charge, but are they really? The Century of the Self tells the untold and sometimes controversial story of the growth of the mass-consumer society in Britain and the United States. How was the all-consuming self created, by whom, and in whose interests? In particular, this series is about how those in power have been able to use Freud's theories to try and control the dangerous crowd in an age of mass democracy.

The Trap: What Happened to Our Dream of Freedom

The series consists of three, one-hour programmes which explore the concept and definition of freedom, specifically "how a simplistic model of human beings as self-seeking, almost robotic, creatures led to today's idea of freedom." In particular, it discusses the dangers of the technocratic model, and explores the influence of game-theory thinking on political policy and the modern world we live in. Highly recommended!

The Power of Nightmares

Labels: Documentary, Movies, Multimedia

This documentary, comprised of 3 parts, compares the rise of the American Neo-Conservative movement and the radical Islamist movement, making comparisons on their origins and noting strong similarities between the two. More controversially, it argues that the threat of radical Islamism as a massive, sinister organised force of destruction, specifically in the form of al-Qaeda, is in fact a myth perpetrated by politicians in many countries—and particularly American Neo-Conservatives—in an attempt to unite and inspire their people following the failure of earlier, more utopian ideologies. May I point out; this documentary is not in the business of discussing conspiracy theories. Rather, it presents a more leftist critique of the neo-Conservative agenda and how they believe that agenda has informed policy.
